Pisces is what allows us to have a spiritual experience in the human form. It is the last sign of the zodiac and in this way it is the sanctuary of separation. It is the thin spaceholder of this world and whatever is beyond. It is the concept of souls and the mystery of where they come from and where they go. Pisces is the evidence that souls exist.
But separation feels a strange description for the Pisces glyph of two fish tied together—And so maybe it is the way that connection only works if we remain whole, as we become one with another. Separate, but together.
Of course it would be simpler to swim alone. But, lonelier. And Pisces knows melancholy well. It is love. Not human love but the love of the universe. The love from God/dess. And therefore, knows how insignifcant it is to exist without it.
But to function tied together requires honoring our own needs as much as the other person. We might think it is loving to give all the power to the other fish, allowing them to control and command everything. But by sacrificing our own autonomy, in fact makes the other do more than their share of work.
Perhaps, what Pisces teaches us is honoring our wants and needs is to honor someone else. Being true to ourselves is bearing our soul. Vulnerability is true connection. Maybe this is what true love is: not sacrifice of self but being fully ourself and that is what we gift to another when we show up in our authenticity. And that is the essence of two becoming one.
A New Moon is a clearing—and in this way, separation makes sense. In tandem, with Pluto’s movements and entrance into Aquarius. In tandem, with the Aries energy that is: I am. In tandem, with the astrological new year, there is much to grieve, there is much to release.
But what is grief but gratitude for having loved something, for an experience so great we don’t want it to end. This is the duality of melancholy—we must know bliss in order to miss it.
We are here for a human experience because that’s simply what we are— and to get lost in the sea of emotion is to evade our humanity. We are not spirits but we can be spiritual. We must be in a body, and we must integrate our inutition into action. We must participate in making our dreams real.
The New Moon in Pisces is a cusp. Pisces separates us so that Aries can initiate something else. Pisces is detachment. An evolved Pisces can detach—a consensus state Pisces will evade. I think what Pisces teaches us about detachment is that this is how we relate without losing ourself. When we are attached to an outcome, to a feeling, to a person, we are giving our power away. We give something of ourself away as if we are a possession. But we are not meant to own anything but ourself—even this is debatable. We are in relationship with others, the land, with what we eat, and what we create.
But detachment allows for us to stay whole and dance with the waves rather then resist them—rather than their force knocking us down and proving us useless and wrecked. Detachment does not pathologize to the heartache, loss or pain. Detachment does not identify with our wins or our mistakes. Detachment sees a wave for a wave.
Along with this New Moon, we have Mars in Aquarius squaring Uranus in Taurus. This is us choosing to do something that feels unlike ourselves only to realize this amplifies our self-knowing. Mars in Aquarius is sending the heart organ emoji to flirt because we are a little guarded but the square to Uranus in Taurus notices how our pulse increases and more blood flows to our cheeks.
The Pisces New Moon also sextiles Uranus in Taurus. The tides turn from resistance to relaxing. We are detached from whatever we wrote in the sand. It was beautiful but there is still sand for us to write on—and in fact having it erased provides for more language—not our silence.
Taurus is land, Pisces, ocean. This sextile is their meeting place, where land greets sea and its reminder to us: two things can touch and remain unchanged. That the existence of sand and sea, their separateness and self-definition is what creates a new thing: the coast.
And coasting is what is coming if it already doesn’t feel here for you now.
The Pisces New Moon is a hand off to the spirit world. It is forgiveness if forgiveness is letting go of your attachments. Float them out to sea. Stay on land. Mercury will be in Aries by then and has built a fire not far from us. You can smell its smoke, if not see its flame or feel its warmth. You see the outline of a form. You will not be alone if you walk towards it.
Your attachments are drifting out to sea—they will never return but they will never be forgotten. You can keep them in your heart—but their message is for someone else. Someone who will find it in a bottle. You feel a twinge of ache in your heart. But you feel grateful for it. Your heart still feels full. You rejoice that this bottle will be found. That it will be read by another. And now you understand love more deeply. It will live on through them. A love that you are now detached from. You don’t need to know the rest but it will give you rest. And that will bring your peace.
Thank you for meeting me here. What a wild ride 2023 and the entrance into 2024 has been—personally for me, one of the toughest I’ve experienced. But waves never stop crashing, and this was my mistake for thinking they did.
Sunday, March 10th, please join me in our first New Moon Club Gathering to set intentions for the next 30 days, to clear our minds, and our spiritual canvases. Receive a reiki meditation and write sourcing your intuitive intelligence. Transcribe the messages that you are embodying but still find unclear. The sand is your slate. Detach from outcome as you see the waves coming to wash your intentions away into existence.
Thank you, thank you, thank you~~ you readers fill my heart.
Love,
The Poet Witch (Sarah)
